I think my go-live will be after the first of the year. This week's onsite determined the final design spec did not recalcaluate the power draw when we upgraded to better phone models, so some of the switches need to be swapped out (trade a 48 port for 2x24 ports in order to have enough available POE ports). Really happy that the VAR caught it so early on - will be a paperwork exercise now, instead of a major pain later. Good luck with your Council. The NOW van demo was really helpful with our staff, getting them an idea of modern phones. Ours are so old the PBX has been in this line of work longer than I have :-)
I just came back from a 3 week vacation with no technology so I am buried in work. Haven't had time off for except for family issues in a couple of years, so it was great to "unplug", but I am paying for it now :-) Hope all is well with you.
When you have time, tell me about your convergence project. We swapped the core switch a couple weeks ago and are working on edge routers and switches next. The VoIP integrator is onsite for the first time next Monday. Replacing a PBX that has been in service over 25 years - change management and customer training will be big deals for us!
Hi. Yes, I was on the MISAC Board for years. I moved to Walnut Creek CA as CIO a couple of years ago in order to balance work/life issues better. That did not necessarily work out as planned (CIO and work/life balance are incompatible concepts, I guess). But we are doing good work here - COOP, Virtualization, desktop power control, City-wide converged infrastructure with VoIP, etc.).
VoIP is going to change my world in the next few months! We will be implementing a City-wide converged infrastructure project and if you want any details, just ask me offline for the good, the bad and the ugly!!
One of those books I was had to finish was the Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. I am thankful I got a chance to do that before he passed. I liked Diane Sawyer's special on him as well.
Well... First I think I will finish the three books that got put on hold this past month, then I will probably have to get after the house chore list which includes builidng a deck and remodeling the guest bathroom.

Having you, Mike, and Wendy in the group is huge from a conference standpoint and from an executive board strategy standpoint.
My question is - what are you going to do with all this time you have now - post conference?
