We hear that phrase on a daily basis. What does it mean? How has it impacted your organization?

We’ve heard the concerns from many IT Leaders. We’re feeling the impact ourselves. During such a harsh time, it makes sense that IT Leaders are personally effected – some handling layoffs, almost all seeing drastic budget cuts. With these difficult circumstances comes a natural mourning period.

While these cuts and layoffs are even more drastic than those we’ve experienced in the recent past, as IT Leaders, it's out job to move forward. To rebuild. Our chance to help our organizations become even more efficient.

How are you doing? How are you moving forward? What can you do now, potentially early in this recession, to increase efficiency in your organization?

This forum is for you...for all of us, to share ideas and plans on how to move forward.

Please share your thoughts.

This most recent budget year saw large cuts across the board for the township. A lot of what we are seeing is self imposed limits by a council facing an election year in 2009. We are exploring things like attempting to cut a large portion of our video consulting budget and go back to a volunteer base for our public access TV station, we are also talking about no longer renewing any hardware warrantees but replace them with new units which would be a capital expense allowing us to shift the cost a bit but this seems to be what they want. As an added side effect it would appear that some people have begun to see how IT can save cost in the long run so we are hopeful that more people will begin to partner with us instead of seeing us as a support department. I am curious to hear others thoughts as well.
